Gypsy Jazz Kandinskiferri

 

For some time I had wanted to build a guitar which represented the artistry involved in instrument making. When I was 16 my parents took me to the Guggenheim museum in New York and I found myself drawn towards the abstract paintings of Wasily Kandinsky. With those images still in my head, I decided to use his painting 'Composition VIII' as the basis for the inlay work on the back of this particular guitar. It was only later that I learned - rather appropriately - that this painting was Kandinsky's attempt to represent music in a visual form.
